CIGNA Rolls Out A La Carte Health Program

NU Online News Service, Feb. 25, 2004, 1:01 p.m. EST – CIGNA HealthCare, Bloomfield, Conn., has introduced an a la carte health program.[@@]

CIGNA will be offering the CIGNATURE program both to insured employers and employers with self-funded health plans starting Jan. 1, 2005.

Employers that adopt the program can decide whether to use primary care physicians as gatekeepers and how high to set employees’ out-of-pocket expense levels.

The provider network menu will include a traditional narrow network, a traditional broad network, and, in some markets, a “select” provider network shaped by a quality measurement program.

Some of the other options are CIGNA Choice Fund health accounts and a “health care coach” program that will use nurses to act as patient advocates as well as health advisors.
