Murphy has been director of marketing and sales at the Woodbury, Minn., broker-dealer. When he moves up, Walter White, the firm’s chief administrative officer, will become the chief operating officer.

Murphy will be succeeding Robert Kerzner, the current president of Woodbury Financial, who has announced plans to retire later this year.

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford, acquired Woodbury Financial from a subsidiary of Fortis, Brussels, in 2001. The broker-dealer now has a network of about 1,800 financial advisors.
