NU Online News Service, Jan. 29, 2004, 4:11 p.m. EST – Harleysville Group Inc. has named William Shelow Jr. president of its Harleysville Life Insurance Company unit.[@@]
The Harleysville, Pa., company is best known as a property-casualty insurer, but it has increased its direct written life insurance premium revenue to about $75 million, up from $23 million 8 years ago.
Shelow, who succeeds Wayne Butz as head of Harleysville Life, previously was senior vice president of marketing at Harleysville Life. He has been working for the parent company since he joined it as a senior life field representative at a Pittsburgh branch in 1984.
Shelow has a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and LIMRA Leadership Institute Fellow professional designations.
