Mass. Blue Foundation Donates $3.1 Million

NU Online News Service, Jan. 22, 2004, 2:49 p.m. EST – The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, Boston, says it donated $3.1 million in 2003 to 106 Massachusetts nonprofit groups.[@@]

The foundation gave $890,000 to help the uninsured, $270,000 to help poor Massachusetts residents join and use public health program coverage, $440,000 to support public policy initiatives, $579,000 to overcome the cultural and language barriers that keep some people from getting good care, and $750,000 to help children with mental health problems.

The foundation also awarded $120,000 in special grants for policy projects and $41,000 in “capacity-building” mini-grants.
