NU Online News Service, Jan. 15, 2004, 5:28 p.m. EST – The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education, Washington, has designated September “Life Insurance Awareness Month.”[@@]

The foundation will be spending $2 million that month to run a special life insurance awareness advertising section in Newsweek and sponsor a print and radio consumer awareness advertising campaign.

The foundation also will be reaching out to journalists at consumer publications, promoting its Web site, and encouraging life insurance companies and producers to use LIFE materials and their own resources to increase awareness.

Some insurers will be expanding advertising and direct marketing programs in September, and some will be using the month to remind their own employees of the importance of having adequate coverage, the foundation says.

“By failing to have adequate life insurance coverage, tens of millions of Americans are gambling with their families’ financial futures each and every day,” David Woods, the foundation president, says in a statement about the 2004 Life Insurance Awareness Month.
