NU Online News Service, Dec. 8, 2003, 9:48 a.m. EST – The White House press office says President Bush will be signing H.R. 1, popularly known as the Medicare drug bill, at 11:10 a.m. today on the steps of the D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington.[@@]

The bill, which enacts the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, contains sweeping provisions that will create a prescription insurance program for Medicare beneficiaries, encourage more private participation in the basic Medicare insurance program and set up a new system of health savings accounts for members of defined contribution health plans.

C-SPAN will be showing the signing ceremony on the Web in the RealPlayer and Windows Media formats at http://www.c-span.org/watch/cspan3_wm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS3
