NU Online News Service, Dec. 5, 2003, 11:07 a.m. EST – UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., says it is giving antitrust regulators at the U.S. Department of Justice more time to review its proposed acquisition of Mid Atlantic Medical Services Inc., Rockville, Md.[@@]

UnitedHealth helped regulators Wednesday by voluntarily withdrawing the pre-merger antitrust notification it filed with the department in early November.

If UnitedHealth had not withdrawn the notification, the waiting period for the initial filing would have expired Wednesday, UnitedHealth says.

Now, the new notification, filed today, will restart the 30-day waiting period, UnitedHealth says.
