NU Online News Service, Nov. 26, 2003, 12:03 p.m. EST – Protective Life Corp., Birmingham, Ala., says William Cabaniss Jr., a member of its board, is stepping down to become the U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic.[@@]

Another member of the Protective leadership team, Jim Massengale, executive vice president of Protective’s acquisitions and West Coast life divisions, is retiring at the end of the year.

Carolyn King, senior vice president of the Protective life and annuities division, will take over as head of acquisitions after Massengale retires, and Bernie Robins, senior marketing officer at the West Coast life division, will become head of the West Coast life division.

Massengale will continue to advise Protective about acquisition opportunities and other matters for a year after he retires, Protective says.
