NU Online News Service, Oct. 23, 2003, 11:13 a.m. EDT – Austin & Company Inc., Albany, N.Y., is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The insurance agency, which now employs 28 people, sells life and health insurance as well as property-casualty insurance.

The agency reports that it was founded the same year that Amelia Bloomer, an early feminist, spotted some of the first professional waitresses in the United States working at the Delavan House, a restaurant located a few blocks from Austin’s original offices.
