NU Online News Service, Oct. 8, 2003, 5:11 p.m. EST – The University of South Carolina has named its new sports arena in downtown Columbia, S.C., The Colonial Center to recognize financial support from Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company.
Colonial is a unit of UnumProvident Corp., Chattanooga, Tenn., that sells employee benefits through the worksite.
Financial terms of the sponsorship were not immediately available.
The Colonial Center arena has a seating capacity of 18,000, making it the 10th largest on-campus basketball arena in the United States, Colonial says.
National and regional telecasts of basketball games and other arena events should help publicize the Colonial name, Colonial says.
The arena sponsorship deal also gives Colonial the right to use the arena for business meetings, customer entertainment and recognition events.
