NU Online News Service, Sept. 4, 2003, 5:47 p.m. EDT – Donna Stone will be the new chair of the Financial Services Standing Committee at the National Conference of State Legislatures, Denver.

The NCSL committee has jurisdiction over banking, insurance, credit unions, securities, and other issues related to financial services.

Stone, a Republican state representative in Delaware, says her priorities for the committee for 2003-2004 include overseeing insurance regulatory modernization and protecting state authority to fight securities fraud.

The committee will work to persuade states to adopt the new Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Compact and continue to work with state officials to oppose legislation that would “weaken the authority of state officials to protect Main Street investors against investment firms or individuals who violate securities laws,” Stone says.
