NU Online News Service, Aug. 27, 2003, 1:41 p.m. EDT – The Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa, is adding a catastrophic disability benefit rider and an automatic increase option rider to new individual disability policies written by its Principal Life Insurance Company unit.

The catastrophic disability rider provides extra benefits for an insured who suffers an event that causes cognitive impairment, causes a “presumptive disability” or prevents the insured from performing two or more activities of daily living.

The automatic increase rider increases benefits from 4% to 10% annually based on the federal Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers.
