NU Online News Service, July 11, 2003, 12:17 p.m. EDT – UICI, North Richland Hills, Texas, says its life division will be taking a charge of about 6 cents per share to cover the cost of settling litigation arising from a workers’ compensation business it once owned.

UICI sells niche health insurance products, such as limited-benefit health insurance plans and major medical insurance for students.

The company was trying to sell long-term care insurance and other products to older consumers, but it is now reorganizing its senior market division.
