NU Online News Service, May 29, 2003, 11:55 a.m. EDT – Health insurers and managed care companies still have an image problem, according to results of an annual poll by Harris Interactive Inc., Rochester, N.Y.

Harris asked 1,010 U.S. adults in April to rate the success of 15 industries at serving consumers.

Banks ranked near the top, with 73% of respondents saying they believe banks do a good job.

Managed care companies and health insurers were at the bottom of the list. Only 30% of respondents told researchers that managed care companies do a good job, and only 40% said health insurance companies do a good job.

The percentage of respondents who think health insurers do a good job has fallen from 51% in 2002. The rating is about as low as it was from 1999 to 2001, Harris says.
