NU Online News Service, May 19, 2003, 5:23 p.m. EDT – Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, a Democrat, has signed a bill that requires state employees to take active steps to receive group life coverage.

The bill, H.B. 74, was introduced by Rep. William Oberle Jr., R-Beecher’s Lot, Del.

Up till now, the state has provided life coverage for employees almost automatically. Employees have had to expressly reject the coverage to get out of the program.

Now that H.B. 74 has been enacted, “an eligible employee must apply, enroll, and pay the premium in order to be covered under this program,” according to the official bill synopsis.
