NU Online News Service, May 6, 2003, 4:10 p.m. EDT – The group insurance unit at CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, is offering a new package of free services with its group life and accidental death policies.

The package includes grief counseling, financial counseling and time with a lawyer, along with a booklet that discusses the legal and financial responsibilities involved with settling an estate.

CIGNA will also provide a personal consultant to guide beneficiaries through the benefit process, and it will automatically put life and accidental death insurance benefits of more than $5,000 into an interest-bearing checking account.

Putting the benefits in a checking account, rather than paying it to the beneficiaries in the form of a lump sum, can help shield beneficiaries from decision-making pressure, CIGNA says.
