NU Online News Service, April 24, 2003, 3:42 p.m. EDT – Aetna Inc., Hartford, reports that more than 55 employers have agreed to offer its new defined-contribution health coverage program, the Aetna HealthFund.
The new defined-contribution plans will cover about 40,000 workers enrolled in fully insured and self-funded health plans, Aetna says.
The typical defined-contribution health coverage program combines high-deductible health insurance with individual, employer-funded health care accounts that plan members can use to pay for routine medical expenses.
Aetna has tried to set its program apart by adding incentives to seek preventive care, access to preferred provider networks and other features provided by most traditional health coverage programs.
