NU Online News Service, April 21, 2003, 11:59 a.m. EDT – Fortis Benefits Insurance Company, Kansas City, Mo., has introduced the Simple Benefits Solutions benefits package.

The employee-paid package includes $25,000 in life insurance; a $20,000 accelerated death benefit for policyholders who are terminally ill; a $75,000 accidental death and dismemberment benefit; and two years of disability insurance with a benefit amount of up to $1,000 per month.

Policyholders who become disabled can collect the full disability benefit even if they eventually qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance or workers’ compensation, Fortis Benefits says.

Fortis Benefits says it designed the package to provide enough affordable, basic protection to get an employee through a crisis period rather than as a source of comprehensive coverage.

Workers who apply during designated enrollment periods do not have to answer health questions, and Fortis says it has developed a simple pricing system that divides workers into three age-based categories.

Fortis Benefits is a unit of Fortis, Brussels.
