Suits Cost Nursing Homes $2,880 Per Bed

NU Online News Service, March 17, 2003, 4:37 p.m. EST – U.S. nursing homes averaged $2,880 in general liability and professional liability claims per bed in 2002, up from an average of $290 in 1995, according to Aon Risk Consultants Inc., a unit of Aon Corp., Chicago.

Aon, which studied nursing home claims costs for the American Health Care Association, Washington, found that the highest average was in Florida. There, nursing homes averaged $11,810 in claims per bed in 2002, up from $3,110 in 1995.
