NU Online News Service, March 5, 2003, 12:57 p.m. EDT – Health insurers will team up with unions, employer groups, health care provider groups and other organizations from March 10 to March 16 to support Cover the Uninsured Week.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Princeton, N.J., has organized the week in an effort to draw attention to the plight of the 41 million U.S. residents who lack either public or private health coverage.

Organizers note that about 80% of uninsured U.S. residents are in working families.

Two of the 19 top-level sponsors of the week are the Health Insurance Association of America, Washington, and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, Chicago. The American Association of Health Plans, Washington, is also participating.

Other major sponsors include the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington; Families USA, Washington; and AARP, Washington.
