NU Online News Service, March 4, 2003, 10:34 a.m. EDT – PacifiCare of California, a unit of PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., Cypress, Calif., has released a report that gives detailed information about the quality of more than 200 California hospitals.

PacifiCare says it believes it is the first health plan in the United States that has published such detailed hospital quality data.

The report rates the hospitals included by measuring more than 50 criteria, such as the volume and success rate for key surgical procedures, patient safety measures, obstetrical and pediatric outcomes, patient satisfaction and utilization.

The report gives hospitals overall grades of A, B or C to show how a hospital compares with other hospitals.
