NU Online News Service, Oct. 30, 1:40 p.m. – Blue Cross of California, Thousand Oaks, Calif., today introduced a new individual and family short-term preferred provider organization plan offered through its affiliate, BC Life & Health Insurance Company.

The company says it is offering the plan as an option for those seeking immediate temporary health coverage or as interim coverage for those waiting for an individual policy to be issued.

The company hopes this type of plan will appeal to displaced or transitional employees, recent college graduates and others temporarily without insurance or waiting for permanent coverage.

The plan offers coverage from 30 to 185 days. An individual chooses to begin or terminate their coverage on any day of the month. Premiums are based on a per-member, per-day rate and are paid in a single premium payment. Cost of premiums may vary according to location and plan selection, the company says.

Deductibles for the plan, or the amount the insured must pay before the health insurance company begins paying for covered services, range from $250 to $2000, Blue Cross says.
