NU Online News Service, Oct. 16, 10:05 a.m. – The Iowa Division of Insurance has published complaint ratios for 2001 for life insurers, HMOs and health insurers doing business in the state, as well as companies selling automobile and homeowners insurance.

Listings can be viewed on the DOI’s Web site at http://www.iid.state.ia.us/division/consumer/complaintratios/default.asp, along with ratios for 2000 and 1999.

The site lists companies about which the DOI has received at least 10 consumer complaints during the year but does not differentiate between justified and unjustified complaints. The DOI cautions consumers not to rely solely on these complaint ratios in deciding on companies from which to buy insurance.

The ratios represent the number of complaints received at the DOI for each $1 million of premium written by an insurer.
