NU Online News Service, Oct. 8, 1:05 p.m. – Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, Salt Lake City, has developed a new, flexible menu of health plan options.

The new “BlueChoices” program lets employers choose plan designs, benefit levels and health care provider networks separately.

The system gives employers a choice of 54 different combinations of benefits and provider networks, Regence says.

None of the combinations requires members to designate primary care physicians or get referrals, and all provide coverage for out-of-network care, the company says.

Employers that choose the lowest level of benefits and the most basic provider networks could pay as much as 20% less than employers now pay for the most popular Regence health plans, Regence says.
