NU Online News Service, Oct. 4, 5:05 p.m. – The American Council of Life Insurers, Washington, has hired Oklahoma Secretary of State Mike Hunter to be its chief operating officer.

Hunter will assume his new duties in mid-October.

The move comes on the heels of the announcement that the ACLI has hired Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, a Republican, to be its new president and chief executive officer. Keating will take over at the ACLI in January 2003, after his term as governor expires.

Hunter has been Oklahoma’s secretary of state since March 1999. He also serves as Keating’s chief liaison to the Oklahoma Legislature, the state judiciary and the state’s federal delegation in Washington.

Before becoming secretary of state, Hunter was chief of staff to Rep. J.C. Watts Jr., R-Norman, Okla.

Hunter succeeds Mark Elam, the ACLI’s outgoing acting president and chief operating officer.
