NU Online News Service, Oct. 2, 3:12 p.m. – PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., Cypress, Calif., will be using debit cards to support a new flexible spending account program.

Workers who contribute to the new PacifiCare FSAs can use the debit cards, which resemble credit cards, to pay for health care services and other eligible products and services.

Traditionally, most workers who have FSAs have had to file paper claims to use the FSA funds.

The new FSA program will take effect Jan. 1, 2003.

PayFlex Systems USA Inc., Omaha, Neb., and Med-I-Bank Inc., Waltham, Mass., are helping PacifiCare set up the program.
