NU Online News Service, Oct. 1, 7:55 p.m. – The Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa, is introducing a new collection of flexible short-term and long-term group disability insurance policies.

Principal has tried to design the policies so that employers can choose benefits and policy designs to fit their budgets.

Employers that want to offer unusually rich benefits packages can choose options such as an activities-of-daily-living benefit and a spouse rehabilitation benefit.

Employers that are trying to control expenses can go with cost-cutting options such as a mandatory rehabilitation provision or a “special conditions” limitation.

Principal is issuing the new policies through its Principal Life Insurance Company unit.

Employers that offer the policies can handle administration using Principal’s Web-based administration service, the Principal Employee Benefits Service Center.
