Multifunctional Devices Range From Simple To Sophisticated

Listed below is a brief sampling of some of the MFDs available from leading manufacturers.

Brother International Corporation, Somerset, N.J. Brother offers both inkjet and laser-based multifunctional units for home and office. Color inkjet units range from $169.99 to $349.99 (estimated street prices), with paper tray capacities from 100 to 250 pages. All models print, copy, fax and scan in color.

Brothers laser-based MFDs range from $299.99 to $799.99 (estimated street prices), with paper tray capacities from 200 to 500 pages. All models print, copy, fax, scan and PC fax.

Canon USA Inc., Lake Success, N.Y. Canon recently introduced two new desktop flatbed multifunctional products. The Canon MultiPASS F60 offers printing, scanning and copying, while the MultiPASS F80 adds faxing capability. Both products feature direct photo printing and high-speed, borderless printing and copying. The inkjet-based F60 and F80 have estimated street prices of $299 and $399 respectively, the company said.

Hewlett-Packard, Palo Alto, Calif. H-P offers both inkjet and laser-based models for businesses that print in color or black. The HP LaserJet 3300mfp series offers Windows and Macintosh users network printing, copying, color scanning, and send-to-e-mail capabilities. The HP LaserJet 4100mfp offers printing, copying, color scanning, and digital sending for offices with shared printing and copying needs. The 3300mfp series units sell for $499 to $899, while the 4100 MFP is priced at $3,749 (all estimated street prices).

Lexmark International Inc., Lexington, Ky. Lexmark recently introduced two laser-based MFDs, the X620e and the X750e, which offer printing, copying, scanning and faxing capabilities, as well as scan-to-e-mail. The X650ewhich offers color scanning and a touch-screen interfacebears a manufacturers suggested retail price of $6,999. The X750e offers the same functionality, but adds color output. Its MSRP is $11,799.

Ricoh Corporation, West Caldwell, N.J. Ricoh recently introduced its Aficio 1060 and Aficio 1075 systems, offering scanning, copying and printing, as well as scanning to e-mail via the control panel. The units offer scanning and document management, along with 60- and 75-page-per-minute output. MSRP for the Aficio 1060 is $21,995, while the Aficio 1075 is priced at $28,000.

Xerox Corporation, Rochester, N.Y. Xerox markets the WorkCentre Pro 416, a digital MFD that prints, copies, scans, and electronically collates documents. Targeted at the small office, the WorkCentre Pro 416 is available in four pre-bundled configurations, with the full multifunctional product list priced at $7,599.
