NU Online News Service, Aug. 15, 12:54 p.m. – Magellan Health Services Inc., Columbia, Md., says it will continue to run an employee assistance program and manage mental health care for employees of International Business Machines Corp., Armonk, N.Y.

The employee assistance program and mental health program serve 580,000 IBM employees and family members.

Magellan, which manages mental health care for one-quarter of the U.S. population, has been running IBM’s EAP program since 1985 and managing its mental health care benefits since 1995.

Magellan uses a team of 100 counselors to handle the IBM account.

The latest contract extension calls for Magellan to supply some new services along with the traditional EAP and mental health care services. Magellan will be providing management consulting services for IBM and developing more wellness and prevention programs, Magellan says.
