NU Online News Service, Aug. 5, 1:33 p.m. – Health Alliance Plan, Detroit, has hired Connecture Inc., Atlanta, to help it use the Web to sell health maintenance organization plans to small employers.

The Health Alliance, a nonprofit company that provides or administers health coverage for 570,000 people, will be using the Web to reach 1,200 agents who sell HMO plans for employers with two to 99 employees.

Agents representing small groups will be able to use the Health Alliance site to get quotes, compare plans and create customized proposals, Connecture says.

Health Alliance hopes to have the new small-business Web services in place by the end of the year.
