NU Online News Service, July 1, 11:34 a.m. – Open enrollment begins today for the new Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program.

Organizers are supporting the enrollment drive by starting the second phase of a massive educational campaign and updating the program Web site, at http://www.ltcfeds.com

The open enrollment season will last through Dec. 31.

The program is open to 20 million federal employees, U.S. Postal Service workers, members of the uniformed services, federal and postal retirees, retired members of the uniformed services, and relatives of eligible employees and retirees.

Units of MetLife Inc., New York, and John Hancock Financial Services Inc., Boston, are running the program through Long Term Care Partners L.L.C., Portsmouth, N.H., a new joint partnership, for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Former President Clinton signed the bill that authorized the program in September 2000.
