NU Online News Service, May 29, 12:55 p.m. – Cobalt Corp., Milwaukee, says Thomas Hefty, its chairman, president and chief executive officer, will carry out the company’s succession plan by retiring later this year.

Stephen Bablitch, now the general counsel, will take the title of president immediately, then become chairman and CEO when Hefty retires, Cobalt says.

Michael Bernstein, president of CompcareBlue, a Cobalt health maintenance organization subsidiary, will become an executive vice president, then move up to president when Bablitch moves up.

Cobalt is the result of the August 2001 conversion of Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin to for-profit status.
