PacifiCare Replaces Chief Medical Officer

NU Online News Service, May 24, 1:18 p.m. – PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., Santa Ana, Calif., has promoted Dr. Sam Ho to the positions of senior vice president and chief medical officer.

The company has also promoted Pete McKinley to vice president of network management.

Ho, who succeeds Dr. Michael Kaufman, will report to Brad Bowlus, president of the company’s health plans division.

Ho joined PacifiCare of California in 1994 and worked heavily on quality improvement programs. Before joining PacifiCare, he worked for Health Net Inc., Woodland Hills, Calif., and served as a deputy director at the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

He has also been chairman of the California Medical Association and California Nurses’ Association’s Joint Practice Commission.

Ho has a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a medical degree from Tufts University.

McKinley, the new vice president of network management, previously was president of PacifiCare of California’s Northern California operations.

McKinley has been the chief operating officer for ReadyScript Inc., Newport Beach, Calif., a wireless health care communications startup; president of IntensiCare Corp., San Diego, a company that manages in-patient hospital care for managed care companies; and vice president of business development for Talbert Medical Management Corp., Costa Mesa, Calif., a physician practice management company.

McKinley has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University.
