Survey: Advisors Worry Most About Government

NU Online News Service, May 16, 3:23 p.m. – Independent financial advisors worry most about government regulation, bear markets and other independent advisors, according to an informal survey by Tiburon Strategic Advisors L.L.C., Tiburon, Calif.,

The financial services consulting firm asked independent advisors to rate the importance of 15 possible threats on a scale of 1 to 10.

Government regulation ranked first, with a rating of 6.1.

Competition from other independent advisors came in second, at 5.4. Bear markets came in third, at 5.3.

The advisors surveyed had little concern about competitors other than independent advisors, rating full-service brokers at 4.6; certified public accountants, 4.2; banks, 3.9; discount brokers, 3.6; and online services, a lowly 3.5.
