New York Life Names Sproule Permanent CFO

NU Online News Service, May 16, 1:35 p.m. – New York Life Insurance Company, New York, has picked Michael Sproule to be its permanent chief financial officer.

Sproule, a senior vice president at New York Life, has been the company’s acting CFO since July 2001, when he took over for Howard Atkins, who left to become CFO of Wells Fargo & Company, San Francisco.

Sproule previously was a senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions.

Before Sproule joined New York Life, he was the chief financial officer of AmerUs Group Company, Des Moines, Iowa. He also spent 17 years at MetLife Inc., New York.

Sproule has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics and a master’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Schaumburg, Ill.
