NU Online News Service, April 17, 12:54 p.m. – The New York State Insurance Department has promoted Louis Pietroluongo to first deputy superintendent.

Pietruluongo will now be the chief operating officer of the department.

Previously, as a deputy superintendent, Pietroluongo ran a disaster preparedness program that helped prepare the New York department and the insurers it regulates for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Pietroluongo has also supervised the department’s frauds, licensing, consumer services and liquidation bureaus.

Before Pietroluongo joined the department in 1998, he served for 32 years with the New York City Police Department. He rose to the rank of deputy chief and eventually ran patrol activities in the Bronx.

Pietroluongo holds a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College.
