Web Health Broker Starts Technology Sales Unit

NU Online News Service, April 2, 11:15 a.m. – EHealthInsurance Services Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif., says it has set up a separate technology unit to market its paperless technology for selling health insurance through the Web.

The company’s Electronic Processing Interchange technology handles electronic forms presentment, electronic signatures and electronic payments.

Companies that have already built the EPI technology into their Web health insurance sales sites include WellPoint Health Networks Inc., Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Blue Shield of California, San Francisco; Fortis Health, Milwaukee; American Medical Securities Inc., Green Bay, Wis.; and Golden Rule Insurance Company, Lawrenceville, Ill.

EHealthInsurance has been a leader in selling health insurance to consumers directly through the Web. Its announcement that it will also be promoting of Web sales technology follows similar announcements from several other Web insurance sales companies.

Another Web health insurance broker, SimplyHealth Inc., Atlanta, recently sold its brokerage operation, changed its name to Connecture Inc., and said it would focus solely on selling Web insurance sales technology.
