NU Online News Service, April 1, 4:39 p.m. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., says it is about to file a revised version of its business plan with state regulators.

North Carolina Blue, a nonprofit company, is seeking state permission to convert to a for-profit company.

The company submitted a draft of its business plan with regulators for a “courtesy review” Jan. 2. The regulators helped North Carolina Blue by telling the company what additional information it needed to supply to provide a complete application, the company says.

Once the business plan is filed formally, it will be subject to review by state insurance regulators and the state attorney general.

North Carolina Blue provides major medical coverage for 2.5 million people.
