NU Online News Service, Feb. 25, 1:12 p.m. – Zurich North America, Schaumburg, Ill., is using the release of the film “John Q” to promote transplant insurance and other forms of insurance that fill in the gaps left by traditional major medical coverage.

“John Q” tells the story of an under-insured father who attacks a hospital to force it to give his son a desperately needed organ transplant.

Managed care groups have attacked the film, arguing that many resources are available for uninsured and underinsured children who need transplants.

But Zurich North America, a unit of Zurich Financial Services Group Inc., Zurich, is the film as a marketing hook. The company has put out a press release inviting reporters to call Richard Richiski, an executive vice president at its accident and health unit, for interviews about critical care insurance programs.
