NU Online News Service, Feb. 6, 4:38 p.m. – AmerUs Group Company, Des Moines, Iowa, is reporting $20 million in net income for the fourth quarter of 2001 on $403 million in revenue, up from $18 million in net income on $270 million in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2000.

Annuity sales increased to $562 million, from $439 million, and fixed life insurance sales increased to $33 million, from $11 million, the company says.

Net investment income rose to $253 million, from $180 million, even though the average yield on the AmerUs portfolio fell to 6.61%, from 7.34%, according to company figures.

Results were better partly because of internal growth, but partly because of the recently completed acquisition of Indianapolis Life Insurance Company, Indianapolis, AmerUs says.
