NU Online News Service, Feb. 4, 1:33 p.m. – MedAmerica Insurance Company of New York, Rochester, N.Y., says actively employed New York state employees can buy long-term care insurance from it on a guaranteed-issue basis, with no medical screening, until May 31.

The New York State Department of Civil Service picked MedAmerica to run the New York State Public Employee and Retiree Long-Term Care Insurance Plan in December 2001.

The new, voluntary, member-paid program is open to at least 300,000 state employees, retirees and dependents, MedAmerica says.

MedAmerica is a subsidiary of Excellus Health Plan Inc., the parent company of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans of Rochester, Central New York and Utica-Watertown.

More information is available on the MedAmerica Web site for the LTC program, at http://www.yourlongtermcare.com/group/index.jsp?code=url1zz
