NU Online News Service, Feb. 4, 3:39 p.m. – The Health Insurance Association of America, Washington, has added Christopher Bowlin, a Capitol Hill veteran, to its public affairs staff.

Bowlin has spent the past year as the deputy assistant secretary for congressional and intergovernmental affairs at the U.S. Labor Department. He spoke for the Bush administration in Congress on matters such as the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974.

Bowlin also served for two years as the lead health staff member on the House Education and Workforce Committee — the House committee that handles most insurance bills. One of his responsibilities was minimizing the likely effects of “patient rights” proposals on health insurers.

Bowlin has five years of experience with a trade group, as human resources policy director at the National Association of Manufacturers, Washington, and four years in the corporate world, as manager of government relations for TRW Inc., Cleveland.

Bowlin holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash.
