NU Online News Service, Jan. 25, 6:50 p.m. – Reinsurance Group of America Inc., St. Louis, is reporting a $28 million net loss for the fourth quarter of 2001 on $551 million in revenue, compared with $9 million in net income on $502 million in revenue for the fourth quarter of 2000.

Operating earnings from continuing operations, which exclude $33 million in investment losses, fell to an operating loss of $21 million, from an operating profit of $29 million.

Premium revenue and market activity were strong, but investment returns were soft, claims were high, and charges related to pensions in Argentina were high, RGA says.
