NU Online News Service, Jan. 16, 12:24 p.m. – The American Patients Association, Coral Gables, Fla., has set up an automated, Web-based system that will file medical insurance appeals for consumers for $12.95 per appeal.

The association has put the system on its Web site, at http://www.ameripat.com

The system will handle appeals for medical claims denied by Medicare plans, group health insurance plans and health maintenance organizations, the association says.

The association says its system will file appeals that will comply with all relevant state and federal appeals rules.

Users can follow the progress of the appeal online. If the appeal is denied, the association system can file a higher level appeal, or file a complaint with the regulatory authority, at no additional charge, the association says.

The association is using technology from eAppealSolutions Inc., Miami Beach, Fla., a company that sells electronic medical claim appeal services to doctors and hospitals.
