NU Online News Service, Jan. 14, 4:33 p.m. – M Financial Group Inc., Portland, Ore., a money manager owned by independent insurance, investment and benefits firms, says it is now offering its M Funds funds to 401(k) retirement plans and other plans that qualify for special tax treatment.

Previously, M Financial sold its M Funds funds mainly through variable life insurance programs and other life insurance-based programs.

The change means that an advisor can use M Funds in both a qualified plan and a non-qualified executive compensation plan for the same employer, M Financial says.

M Financial began selling the M Funds funds in 1996. The company now manages $300 million in fund assets. A broker/dealer subsidiary, M Holdings Securities Inc., acts as the distributor.
