NU Online News Service, Dec. 18, 3:39 p.m. – EHealthInsurance Services Inc., Sunnyvale Calif., has agreed to sell health insurance through affinity group Web sites set up by JLT Services Corp., New York.

JLT, a unit of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group P.L.C., is an insurance broker that organizes insurance programs for unions, trade associations and other groups.

JLT will now build the eHealthInsurance sales system into the insurance sales Web sites it puts up for the affinity groups. Many group members who visit the sites will be able to purchase health insurance online. In other cases, members can compare prices and apply for coverage, eHealthInsurance says.

EHealthInsurance will make licensed health insurance agents in a customer service center available to help group members through electronic mail, Internet chat sessions or telephone conversations.

EHealthInsurance once struggled to get the licenses and marketing agreements it needed to sell health insurance through the Web, but the company says it now has the ability to sell health insurance to 98% of the U.S. population.
