Sept. 11 Attacks Increase MetLife Loss Ratios

NU Online News Service, Nov. 6, 3:33 p.m. – MetLife Inc., New York, says the Sept. 11 attacks increased the cost of losses incurred during the third quarter to 107.3% of earned premiums for individual life insurance, 108.3% of earned premiums for group life insurance, and 169.7% of earned premiums for group disability insurance.

If the Sept. 11 attacks had not occurred, the incurred loss ratios would have been just 75.3% for individual life, 93.7% for group life, and 114.8% for group disability, according to a statistical supplement posted on the MetLife Web site, at //ir.metlife.com/pdf/3Q01qfs.pdf
