Flutie To Play For Sun Life

NU Online News Service, Oct. 16, 4:15 p.m. – Veteran NFL quarterback Doug Flutie will do exclusive endorsements for Sun Life Financial, Wellesley Hills, Mass., through 2002, the company says.

Flutie, main quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, will be featured in print advertising and promotional appearances for the company in the United States.

The company says it picked Flutie as its spokesperson because the 1984 Heisman Trophy winner personifies virtues it wants consumers to associate with Sun Life: excellence, creativity and risk taking, adaptability and the ability to generate opportunities.

Sun Life’s association with Flutie began last year when it presented the Doug Flutie Jr. Celebrity Golf Classic, benefiting the quarterback’s foundation for autistic children.

The company’s first ad featuring Flutie appeared in regional editions of the Wall Street JournalOct. 15. The ad also appears in Money, Business Week, Fortune and Forbes and is scheduled to appear in Entrepreneur, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and Mutual Funds.
