NU Online News Service, Oct. 5, 1:15 p.m. – The Pacific Business Group on Health, San Francisco, says its Pacific Health Advantage small-group purchasing pool has hired John Grgurina Jr. as executive director.

Grgurina previously was chief deputy director for the California Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board, an agency that serves state residents who lack health insurance.

Grgurina helped create the Health Insurance Plan of California, a state-sponsored small-group purchasing pool that eventually became Pacific Health Advantage. PBGH acquired the pool from the state in 1998.

Grgurina also helped create the Healthy Families Program, a program that provides health coverage for children from low-income families that are unable to qualify for Medicaid.
