NU Online News Service, Oct. 4, 3:45 p.m. – The Center for Long-Term Care Financing, Bellevue, Wash., a group that promotes private solutions for financing long-term care, says nursing home care assistance already eats up 42% of the state Medicaid budget, up from 23% in 1990.

Even though the state is spending more Medicaid, Medicaid reimbursement rates are so inadequate that nursing homes must charge private-pay patients at least $20 more a day to simply make up for the losses on the Medicaid patients, the center reports.
